Wenwu Zhu is the Vice Chair of the Department of Computer Science and Technology at Tsinghua University, the Vice Director of Tsinghua Center for Big Data, and the Vice Dean of National Research Center for Information Science and Technology.

Prior to his current position, he was a Research Manager at Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China. He was the Chief Scientist and Director with Intel Research China, Beijing, China, from 2004 to 2008. He was at Bell Labs, Murray Hill, NJ, USA, as a member of technical staff from 1996 to 1999. He received the Ph.D. degree from New York University, New York, NY, USA, in 1996. 

Wenwu Zhu is an AAAS Fellow, IEEE Fellow, SPIE Fellow, and a member of the Academy of Europe. He has been serving as the Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on Multimedia (T-MM) since January 1, 2017. He served on the Steering Committee for IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing (T-MC) from 2007 to 2010. He serves as General Co-Chairs for ACM Multimedia 2018 and ACM CIKM 2019. He was the recipient of nine Best Paper Awards including T-CSVT in 2001 and ACM Multimedia 2012. His current research interests include the areas of multimedia big data computing and cross-media AI.
